Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution

Last Friday night I tuned into ABC once my brood was in bed for the night and watched the new special on healthy eating and what is going on in our school's lunch rooms across the country. Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. After watching the first hour I had a hot new British crush *with good teeth I might add* and regrets on marrying my husband when I could have totally hooked up with this hot and healthy hunk.

This first clip I dug up on Youtube *my newest favorite hobby* shows really one of the biggest obstacles in the school lunch system in our country. The lunch ladies nationwide are not making the choices of what our children eat at school, or the meal options that are made available to our children, they outwardly don't give a flying fuck about it either.

Yes, it is a problem.
No, children, especially in elementary school should not even have the option to eat pizza for breakfast.

Why can we not encourage healthy eating with some fresh fruit cups, or scrambled eggs, or even oatmeal? All of those options are easy to make, cost effective, and healthy. Ask me how I know! Because I am lazy and that is what I feed my children for breakfast!
I do not make breakfast into a long productions like lunch or dinner is. *If I did I fear I may turn into some TV cooking nitwit like Martha Stewart* I am dragging ass in the morning, the kids are too *It is a big enough war just to get them to eat*, and it takes too much effort to make much else!!!!!

Moving on down the road to the next problem. The first and most alarming thing to me is when Jamie unveiled the veggies, the whole room gasped and eewwwwww's filled the room. What a horrid stigma these children have associated with foods they should be eating at that age.
Then none of the children could name any of the vegetables in a class of first graders. FIRST GRADERS! Six year old children who have already been failed by their parents by the tender young age of six. My 3 year old can name all of the vegetables shown because we actually eat them in our home on a daily basis.

As if the above was not bad enough, Administrators for the school system also discuss french fries being considered a serving of vegetables on their menu.
No, deep fried potato treats are not vegetables. *no matter how much I wish they were* French Fries just aren't veggies!

Our nation is in food and health crisis.
There are sky high obesity rates not only in our adults but in our children.
The kids do not know the first thing about eating or naming a vegetable but can identify a chicken nugget or happy meal.
Diabetes is growing in young children, and our children are the first generation that will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.

In the words of Jamie WAKE UP AMERICA!!
